Open Access supporting the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Online

In this brief talk Ciarán Quinn (Research Support Librarian, MU) will discuss the vital importance of the availability of Open Access research publications to improve access to information and knowledge to enable the fulfilment of the SDG’s to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, encourage economic growth, and tackle environmental destruction and climate change. 

Key areas covered will be the development of Open Access, the challenges, the current situation, identifying OA research papers that relate specifically to the SDG’s and the role of MU advocacy for open access.  

Attendees will benefit from a clearer understanding of the importance of OA as a means of democratising access to information and how this can have a clear demonstratable benefit for the achievement of the SDG’s.
